“I have stayed here many times over the years (although it had been a few years since I stayed last) and have always had a soft spot for this landmark hotel. While everything was fine this last time, I was a little saddened to see that they have tried to make the main lobby area more trendy by adding a large bar area and making it seem more glitzy. I realize that not everything can stay in the past but it felt a little like everything had to be monetized rather than keeping up with the actual feel of the building.
Service though was great and very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable.”

“The Royal York is a nice hotel. The lobby is large, open, inviting and has been recently renovated. The lobby and lobby bar is lively and fun. The guest services were really good. I didn't have to wait long to check in and the agent was friendly.
There are a 10 elevators to get you to your floor so you don't have long waits or crowded cars when you get in. This is something most hotels can't boast about.
My room was very nice. The room was recently renovated with very modern fixtures and furnishings. The craftsmanship of the work was excellent. The wallpaper, for example, was so well done that it was difficult to see the seams.
The room was very clean. I always look in the corners to see the attention to detail of a room and the corners were clean of any debris or signs of wear.
There are a few reasons that keep me from giving the Royal York a 10 star rating:
1) There was no turn-down service. Maybe they usually have it? I didn't get it.
2) There were no complimentary bottles of water on my arrival or left in my room at a later time
3) The in-room fridge can't be used for personal reasons and you will be charged if you take something out even if you put it back a minute later
These three things cater to the Royal York's concern with profitability and not making sure that the customer is taken care of. Instead, if the Royal York took care of the customer then profitability would follow.”
