As such, there are several trains in either direction every day. The journey from Bangkok takes 10-12 hours; 2nd class air-con sleeper ticket costs 734-804 baht, air-con seat car is 574 baht (both can be booked online [http://www.thairailwayticket.com/Default.aspx?language=1]). 2nd class fan sleeper is 150-200 baht cheaper than air-con, but can be booked only at the station.

      From Chiang Mai, the journey takes around 2 hours. Express fan car tickets are 23 baht. Air-con car tickets are just over 100 baht and all tickets can be bought at the station only.

    • By bus

      There are many buses going from Mo Chit bus terminal in Bangkok to Lampang. Many of those are continuing on to [wiki=57e94893120121f19fa688c7b1f02df2]Chiang Mai[/wiki]. First-class air-con bus ticket costs around 400-450 baht, the trip takes 8-9 hours (as such, overnight buses are recommended).

      From Chiang Mai (Arcade bus station), buses are very frequent, and it takes just around 1-1.5 hours to get to Lampang. The price is 40-80 baht, depending on bus class. (as at Nov 2010, first-class air-con bus costs 90 baht )

      Finally, many buses going from Chiang Mai to various other destinations in central and northeastern Thailand have a stop in Lampang. It is therefore usually possible to board a direct service to get where you need to.

    There are no tuk-tuks serving Lampang, so you either rely on the horse-drawn carriages, or on songthaews, which can be hired like a tuk-tuk. If it is not on a fixed route, ask the driver for a price to where you want to go, and make sure that you understand if this is a price for the trip or a price per person.

    *Lampang is a major ceramics centre of Thailand. Up and down highway 11 you will find ceramics factories with outlets. An especially good one is Sangchai Outlet, where you can stock up on all the cockerel-laden bowls you need, along with local goodies like khao tan biscuits. It's common to see out-of-town Thai nationals shopping for souvenirs.
    *Large mall opened in 2013 in Lampang. Western food, movie theater with occasional English films, grocery store, food court etc.

    * On the left at the market entrance on the road is a 7-11 (where you can buy beer/soft drink to drink with your meal (ask them to open it for you), and there are many assorted food stalls with tables adjacent. The night market is only Saturday and Sunday nights. Plenty of shopping and food along the streets in the area. This place is very popular with local Thais.

    * Traditional Thai & local Thai food, together with live music every night. Attracts people of all ages with a mixture of locals and tourists. The staff are friendly and English-speaking. It is located by the river, a great place to hang out and have fun.

Owner speaks perfect English and can tell you loads about what to see and do in Lampang!
    *Fun cafe serving Western food, coffee, tea, and smoothies (beer and wine also). It has an xbox, TV with English channels, books, dart board, and ping pong table. Very popular with Expats living in Lampang.
    *Evening market with plenty of traditional Thai food. There is a Phat Thai place right at the front that serves excellent food. The women that work there speak very good English.

    *This place is really a bunch of tables set up in front of a convenience store. You can buy your beer inside the store or have the waitresses bring it to you. You can buy food from the train station market and eat it at the tables while you drink. They also have wifi. The wifi password is just printed with red ink on the walls. If you have a break on the train journey, you can walk over and use the wifi for free. This place is very popular with local Thais.
    *Nice outdoor bar with live music and football matches on TV. Definitely one of the better bars in Lampang. Very popular with locals. They serve food as well.

      Tidy 1970's Hotel (Often nobody to receive guests.You may have to phone). Large rooms. Relatively cool. Quiet. Clean enough.

      * Wooden colonial house, family-run, clean, great value.

      From the bus station, a songthaew charges 40 baht/person. The hotel is a new modern accommodation, safe, clean rooms and friendly staff. The breakfast buffet 7.00 - 10.00 am. Internet and Welcome drink for free.

      * From the bus station, a songthaew charges 40-60 baht. The hotel is a little dated, but clean and the air-con is good. The breakfast is a choice of either two Thai dishes of rice porridge or fried noodle, or toast and jam. There is Internet at the hotel, and an Internet cafe is difficult to locate anywhere near the hotel.

      * Claims to be the only deluxe hotel in Lampang.

      * Attractive wooden style building, very clean and comfortable. No swimming pool or gym.
