Orientation: Novi Sad has good transport connections with nearby cities thanks to its great position. It is located about 80km to the northwest of [wiki=c87f42a2ab4a24074411dfd55ca71450]Belgrade[/wiki], about 300km from [wiki=9fed5dae86e3030d9be3740efa198659]Budapest[/wiki], 424 km from [wiki=a606fe014370d8c520a07f30df46ef10]Ljubljana[/wiki], 309km from [wiki=b827d268b3e75abe3c4419d959d93998]Zagreb[/wiki], 548 km from [wiki=bc8ead33389619cc05222e0315e41216]Podgorica[/wiki], 480 km from [wiki=654cd76590cebe0ba37e8d4cce8a96ee]Sofia[/wiki], 150km from [wiki=31accfc76d092adbd61fdef0ee13a17b]Timisoara[/wiki] ([wiki=0c7d5ae44b2a0be9ebd7d6b9f7d60f20]Romania[/wiki]), 100 km from the border town (with [wiki=fa79c3005daec47ecff84a116a0927a1]Hungary[/wiki]) of [wiki=6e9dcc64c89488ab97b4eb79b7418f94]Subotica[/wiki] and about 100km from the Romanian border town of [wiki=1e3a94575805416ec5ee4edf670d49f1]Jimbolia[/wiki].
    • By plane

The city itself doesn't have an airport and the closest one is Nikola Tesla International Airport [url=http://www.beg.aero/code/navigate.php?Id=54]]near Belgrade (about 70 kilometers). There are no direct buses from the airport. Some taxi companies run regular cars between Belgrade Airport and Novi Sad, e.g. Autoturist [url=http://www.autoturist-ns.com/[/url]]tel. +381 63 504 587. KI-KI [url=http://www.kiki021.com/index.php/airports-pricelist-aerodromi-i-cene[/url]]has fixed prices for private transfers (4000 RSD / € 35) for a private car. Belgrade Airport Transfer [url=http://www.belgradeairporttransfer.com/[/url]]also offer transfers.

Other useful airports with low-cost flights might be:
      * Budapest Ferihegy International Airport [url=http://www.bud.hu/[/url]](247 kilometers from Novi Sad, serving numerous low-cost airlines, the best way to get to Western/Northern Europe by plane)
      * Timisoara Traian Vuia International Airport [url=http://www.aerotim.ro/[/url]](126 kilometers from Novi Sad, serving Wizz Air[http://www.wizzair.com[/url])

    • By car

E-75 highway that connects Belgrade and Budapest passes by some 5km from Novi Sad. Toll fare for passenger cars coming from Belgrade is 240RSD (or 3EUR). Prices for other types of vehicle (bus, truck) are higher.

If you want to go in the direction of Zagreb, Ljubljana take E-70 highway which is some 40km south/west of Novi Sad.

    • By bus

Using the bus is the most recommended option. The bus stations for long-distance trips are:

      * "Old bus station", at Bulevar Jaše Tomića 6 (still much more used than the new one) near the train station.
      * not in function since 2009: "New bus station", at the corner of Sentandrejski Put and Novosadskog partizanskog odreda, near "Novosadska Mlekara" (Novi Sad's dairy plant).

Within Serbia, Novi Sad is connected by bus to all other major cities. The most frequent route is the one from [wiki=c87f42a2ab4a24074411dfd55ca71450]Belgrade[/wiki], with buses leaving every 15 minutes during peak hours and a total of nearly 100 journeys each day in each direction.

      Internationally, the city has frequent bus connections to [wiki=654cd76590cebe0ba37e8d4cce8a96ee]Sofia[/wiki] in [wiki=01a151debf2bfee8906f43f4342eb10b]Bulgaria[/wiki], [wiki=9fed5dae86e3030d9be3740efa198659]Budapest[/wiki] in [wiki=fa79c3005daec47ecff84a116a0927a1]Hungary[/wiki], [wiki=b827d268b3e75abe3c4419d959d93998]Zagreb[/wiki], [wiki=b67cef28b30b4b47a206a65c1436f866]Vukovar[/wiki], and [wiki=01ccd3eee99914dd5e68294a338e2694]Osijek[/wiki] in [wiki=560d4c6ff431c86546f3fcec72c748c7]Croatia[/wiki], [wiki=45cb61a48b985856d8bf1cb545661858]Sarajevo[/wiki] and [wiki=e807f25eba3e1387d1576b6de7b34416]Banja Luka[/wiki] in [wiki=96a6dd711874d4323dc2d3f932bd2ed3]Bosnia and Herzegovina[/wiki], and [wiki=b5b72e7242aae8d0b24a8f016a18e96f]Budva[/wiki], [wiki=070e7cf87d826ffece5d7f0b684dc11e]Tivat[/wiki], [wiki=bc8ead33389619cc05222e0315e41216]Podgorica[/wiki], [wiki=e5c8f82902b1ff0ee6e5cfc96d9d9fff]Herceg Novi[/wiki] in [wiki=4e92f9d2cdf0b8eb493ae3a19709d121]Montenegro[/wiki]. • By bike

The cycling route EuroVelo 6 [http://www.eurovelo6.org/rubriques/gauche/the-stages/budapest-belgrade] connects Novi Sad to Hungary and to Belgrade by following the Danube river. Novi Sad has dedicated cycle-paths along most of its avenues.

    • By train

Daily trains to and from Budapest are around 20 euro (Return tickets are 26 Euro). They are 6 person shared compartments though, and going north may be filled with kids going to Budapest to party.

  • filter_dramaGet around
Walk, the city centre is actually quite small and most of the interesting sights, bars and hotels are all within easy walking distance. There are plenty of street maps, especially in the centre, so you can find your way easily.
    * Public transport service. [http://www.gspns.rs/index.php]. Novi Sad has an excellent bus service. Ticket for one ride (no matter how far you go as long you don't change the bus) costs 55 RSD and is bought from the driver.
    * Taxis are not overly expensive (by Western standards), the minimum fare varies between 80 and 100 RSD, with a cross-city trip typically costing 200-300 RSD. It helps to have the address written out although many taxi drivers speak fair, sometimes even excellent, English. However, be careful of taxis unaffiliated with one of the major firms (especially at the train station), or you may pay up to four times more than your fare should be. Some good taxi companies: Pan, Vojvodjani, SOS, Delta, Novus, Naš, Vip, Red, MB.
UPDATE (as of late 2014): Warning! The aforementioned bogus taxis have now somehow managed to acquire official "TX" license plates and are allowed to queue at regular taxi stands, nevertheless they still use tampered meters and will definitely rip you off. They usually put up slightly misspelled logos of one of the well-known companies ('Delia' or 'Delux' instead of Delta; 'Grad' instead of Grand etc.) To be on the safe side, you can always text your desired pick up address to the "taxi-proxy" service at 069 5555 021 which will send the nearest car from any of the registered companies.
