      Bilene, Bilene Beach, or Praia de Bilene is one of Maputo's, and Johannesburg's favourite getaways. A huge lake is circled by lots of accommodation options. The outlet of the lake at hightide makes way to the Indian Ocean and good diving and great fishing. Bilene was known as Sao Martinho in colonial times.

      Bilene is three hours north of Maputo. Driving north along the main highway you should turn right at Macia. From Macia to Bilene is about 30km on a thinner but paved road. Once in town you will hit a roundabout and a BCI bank. Take any road other than the one to the very left and you will be lead to the town centre.

      In the centre of town you can get around with a normal vehicle. The further lodges require 4x4 vehicles.
