Battle is reached by road by turning off the A21 onto the A2100 (OS Map 199; reference TQ 749157).

Battle train station is situated on the main line between London Charing Cross and Hastings.

Local bus services are available from the station and in the village centre. They serve the surrounding countryside, usually terminating in Hastings, and are less efficient means of getting in and out of Battle than by car or rail.

Battle Abbey and Battlefield [url=http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/battleabbey/],]southern end of the High Street, tel 01424 773792, fax 01424 775059, open 1 Apr-30 Sep 10AM-6PM, 1 Oct-31 Mar 10AM-4PM, closed 24-26 Dec and 1 Jan, admission adults £7.80, children £2.50, concessions £3.80, English Heritage members free, family ticket £12.50 - now maintained by English Heritage, the Abbey was established after 1070 on the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the Pope having decreed that the Norman conquerors should do practical penance for the deaths inflicted in their conquest of England. William the Conqueror initiated the building, but it was only completed and consecrated in 1094 in the reign of his son William II (Rufus). The Abbey is in an incomplete, partly ruinous state, having been dissolved during the Reformation, then re-used as a private home. Visitors can stand on the reputed site where Harold was slain on 14 October 1066.

Battle has a quaint, historic High Street that hosts some nice boutique style small shops and a few convenience stores. There are also a number of antique shops, florists, barbers/hair stylists and small art galleries, interspersed with good pubs and a fish and chips shop. For clothes shopping, electronics and brand stores, [wiki=c8ee3d1fa35caebaed78a15cb8b9b0f8]Hastings[/wiki] is the nearest larger town catering to these criteria.
