Collioure is the merging of two nearby hamlets, either side of the castle which stands on high land between them.
The town with 3000 habitants is a tourist town noted for the place fauvist art was founded by Matisse. There are 3 gravelly beaches, with lifeguards in High season, right by the promenades. Most of the town is pedestrianised, allowing strolls through the colourful shops.

The french army have a commando base beside the town, and out of the peak season of July&August, these train in the harbour and the mouth of the dry riverbed just northeast of the castle.

Do not miss this coast town! It is one of the most beautiful places of the area but however it is a tourist town. Be aware of the high season although the masses of tourists cannot damage the beauty and charm of the city! But it is save to recommend that due to south France's wonderful weather in spring and autumn, a stroll through the wonderful town is even more enjoyable between March-May and September-October.

All over the town you can find golden frames (12 in number) which show the church's pink bell tower out of scenic points of view. They were installed by the artist Marc André De Figueres.

The view of the bay from the old light tower, with the Pyrenees behind. Be aware of the wind!

The Château Royal. Build in 13th century by Majorcan kings. Possible to visit during the whole year.

The alleys of this colorful town are full of little shops.
  • filter_dramaEat
In town you can find a great offer of seafood but due to the tourists the prices are quite high in the most scenic restaurants (Restaurants in the alleys are more affordable). But do not miss out on the view and at least have a drink there or bring your own food and picnic on the beach.
