You can also get to George from [wiki=beaf9b680daa1d2c2fc5e636049d1ff9]Oudtshoorn[/wiki] (to the north) via the R29.

The train used to run between George and [wiki=2f625bfc391c37f1f239521bf54d2a40]Knysna[/wiki] (via [wiki=6fe16b2ecfb71be8c0136c163b70120b]Wilderness[/wiki] and [wiki=c2a47f45ee9ada38387ffa3d5f870dd5]Sedgefield[/wiki]) but the railway line was severely damaged in 2006 and 2007 due to landslides after heavy rain and extreme flooding. Sadly, repairs to this line do not seem to be happening and its future is uncertain.
