      By car is the only practical way in, there is no air or rail service and limited bus services.

      * Interstate 90 (I-90) passes by at the south side of town. Ellensburg is accessed from Exit #106 (W. University Way & Thorp Hwy) and 109 (Canyon Rd). Located 110mi/165km (1hr38min) east of Seattle and 170mi/272km (2hr44min) west of Spokane.

      * Interstate 82 (I-82) begins southeast of Ellensburg at Exit 110. I-82 goes southeast through [wiki=8db04541fb256563f0f7db3e7602b12e]Yakima[/wiki] (36mi/57.5km), Toppenish, Sunnyside, Tri-Cities (113mi/181km) and down into [wiki=cab31d5d2c5251007e90bcab64e7d175]Hermiston[/wiki], Oregon (142mi/227km). Ends at the junction with Interstate 84. From I-84, I-82 starts from Exit #179.

      * US-Hwy 97 goes another 160mi/256km (3hr) north to [wiki=2ecfc6b85b2a5a73ca6c72a68670cc5c]Omak[/wiki] and another 48mi/77km (:45min) from Omak to [wiki=7d0b94fbe33408b34354986beab64c94]Osoyoos[/wiki], BC by Lake Osoyoos, just over the U.S./Canadian border. From I-90, access to US Hwy 97 northbound is off of Exit #106 and the first left (north) from the eastside of the freeway. Going southbound, US-97 follows I-82 to Union Gap just south Yakima where it branches off again on a separate road to Toppenish and south to Biggs Junction, Oregon (Exit #104 along Interstate 84 in Oregon).

    • By bus

      Greyhound has four departures daily to Seattle from a stop at the western edge of town (see below):

      * Travels primarily on Interstate 90 (Seattle, Ellensburg, Moses Lake, Spokane, Couer d'Alene, Kellog, St Regis & Missoula); Interstate 82 (Stanfield, OR; Pasco, Sunnyside, Yakima, Ellensburg & Seattle) and US395/I-84 (Spokane, Pasco, the Dalles, Hood River, Portland). Passengers transfer buses in [wiki=3c94d8a5cbd6b27c548655aa7d67c38d#By_bus]Spokane[/wiki], [wiki=4c54c163f43d0ac8512df032b3b07bff#By_bus]Seattle[/wiki], [wiki=a079f0b964f0a414eda20a8fd312c6fd#By_bus]Tri-Cities[/wiki] (to get to Walla Walla, NE Oregon or Portland), [wiki=e393fa3c1ec1ddb24c1e95486fdbe0e7#By_bus]Missoula[/wiki], [wiki=e7410c7c47562ef40b190763b5487c89#By_bus]Portland[/wiki] or Stanfield (Greyhound buses traveling along I-84) to get to additional cities.

      Besides Greyhound there are:
      * operates the state's "Travel Washington Apple Line" bus [url=http://www.appleline.us/]]between Ellensburg, Wenatchee & Omak.

      * Goes west to Cle Elum, North Bend and SeaTac Airport and southeast to Yakima. Can make an additional stop at CWU (Central Washington University) Starbucks at 908 E 10th St (in town) by reservation ONLY, does not automatically stop there.

      * Ellensburg Commuter (Yakima Transit Rt #11 & by Hopesource) [http://www.hopesource.us/yakima_commuter_flyer.pdf[/url] goes up to Ellensburg & Central Washington University (CWU) campus four times daily from Yakima.

    By car is the most practical & convenient way around town and around Kittitas County. There is NO rail service and very limited bus services in the county. If necessary there are:

    *[url=http://www.hopesource.us/yakima_commuter_flyer.pdf] Yakima Commuter[/url] is an express bus between Ellensburg and [wiki=8db04541fb256563f0f7db3e7602b12e]Yakima[/wiki] operated by Hopesource and Yakima Transit (Rt#11).

    *[url=http://www.centraltransit.org] Central Transit[/url] provides local in town shuttles betweeen CWU (Central Washingotn University), downtown Ellensburg, and the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
