    In 2009, Bay Shore celebrated its tricentennial and put banners up throughout the town.
    Bay Shore’s population is about 25,000 people with many different races, [http://www.city-data.com/city/Bay-Shore-New-York.html], made up of 58.8% of White Non-Hispanic, 19.9% Hispanic, 17.2% Black, 7.2% other race, 4.0% Two or more races, 1.3% American Indian, and 1.0% Asian Indian (Total can be greater than 100% because Hispanics could be counted in other races).

    The easiest way to get around in Bay Shore is by car. There aren’t many taxies or buses that drive around town.

    The next best way to get around would be by bike or walking. While roaming around Bay Shore you are bounded to see someone you know.

    Sagtikos Manor, built in 1697 and served briefly as headquarters for the British army during the Revolutionary War. President George Washington stayed there during his tour of Long Island in 1790. Take a tour of the Manor House led by costumed docents and stroll through the grounds and nearby Gardiner County Park. Take Robert Moses Causeway South to Exit RM27A Bay Shore. Turn right onto Route 27A and continue east approximate 1/2 mile.

    After you’re done at Sagtikos Manor you can head East on 27A and you will get to the Bay Shore Brightwaters Public Library. The Library just went under major construction in 2009 and remodeled the whole building. The Library first open in 1907, has since transformed into a more modern place for learning.

    If you continue down 27A it will soon turn into Main Street and on the right is the YMCA. The YMCA is an after school program were kids can do their homework and play with other kids while their parents are still working. If you are a member you can go swim, run the track, using the gyms and even lift weights.

    Also associated with the YMCA is the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts. The YMCA Boulton Center offers theatre productions, concerts, film, dance, cabaret, jazz, poetry and play readings, student productions, children’s entertainment, YMCA cultural arts events, lectures, and seminars.

    The Bay Shore bowling alley is at 1840 Sunrise Hwy Bay Shore, NY 11706. You can go there with your friends for fun, a birthday party or join a league. When you go bowling on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night they turn the light out and lanes light up.

    Food

    * It is a hot spot for lunch and during the school year many students relax and eat a piece of pizza. Mamas is family owed that has great prices and go along with their great food.
    * Leigo’s is a deli that is run out of the owner’s house. They make the best sandwiches; it is so worth the wait for the sandwich. You can get a foot long sandwich and a drink for under $5. Leigo’s isn’t the cleanest place but people at know about Leigo’s still go there for lunch.
    * Fat Fish Bar & Bistro is open year round! Take in the breathtaking views of the bay while enjoying the cuisine of executive chef and proprietor Brian Valdini. The Fat Fish is more of an upscale restaurant.
    * Cool Water is open for lunch and dinner. It is under the same ownership as the Fat Fish.
    * This restaurant in located right on the water. Captain Bill’s in upscale and is more of a catering place for large parties.
