There are few daily flights to and from [wiki=0ef8f876d62a45352e28410454e3634b]Istanbul[/wiki] and [wiki=9221413dd904c157938b397753a8b4bb]Ankara[/wiki].
The city station lies on the route of twice weekly Vangölü Ekspresi, which connects [wiki=4ba2c53aeee3865a0bb8ae4d403ee073]Tatvan[/wiki] on the [wiki=585f98ed9d73111845ef5e876fd8c8dc]Lake Van[/wiki] with several cities in [wiki=169858ca122e5f89a1ce7f36c5979203]central[/wiki] and [wiki=116eae0c277676d69681f018f6b73229]western Turkey[/wiki], such as [wiki=39ee0ab78d87f8f7be433f11d07b9fb2]Kayseri[/wiki], [wiki=9221413dd904c157938b397753a8b4bb]Ankara[/wiki], and [wiki=0ef8f876d62a45352e28410454e3634b]Istanbul[/wiki] among others, as well as calling at nearby [wiki=00772b2fb92df11ee3a090ab53c4e2ae]Malatya[/wiki]. As the rail line east of Istanbul is closed, the Vangölü Ekspresi operates only between Ankara and Elazig. [http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/trans/Train/vangolu.html]
Elazığ station is also the eastern terminus of daily Fırat Express, which departs from the [wiki=2cf4c8016d2c76d9f7f3c4b3921025e5]Mediterranean[/wiki] city of [wiki=5520d9658f058d9f3ebbc9671bb09ae9]Adana[/wiki] at 8:38AM, calling at [wiki=00772b2fb92df11ee3a090ab53c4e2ae]Malatya[/wiki] around 5:50PM, and finally arriving at Elazığ at 7:20PM.
See Turkish State Railways' website for more information [http://www.tcdd.gov.tr/].
From nearby [wiki=00772b2fb92df11ee3a090ab53c4e2ae]Malatya[/wiki], you can catch minibuses which depart from Doğu Garajı ("eastern bus stop") just off the intercity highway, northeast of city centre near a large roundabout at the end of Sivas Caddesi Street.
Those more adventurous and having more time to spare may prefer the remoter and slightly longer route from [wiki=00772b2fb92df11ee3a090ab53c4e2ae]Malatya[/wiki], via the towns of [wiki=051ca448f849cde9988201afb1b24001]Battalgazi[/wiki] and [wiki=21d3dd20a7af0918099a7f07cd663963]Baskil[/wiki] and which involves taking a ferry when crossing the Karakaya Dam lake, at about the mid-way between Battalgazi and Baskil. There are ferries three times a day-at 7:30AM, 11AM, 3:30PM-from the harbour on the Battalgazi/Malatya side (and the return voyages from Baskil/Elazığ side at 8AM, 1PM, 5PM), but as the ferries depart as soon as their vehicular capacity is full (and do not wait for their schedule), show up at least half an hour before the scheduled departure. They also accept foot passengers. Crossing the dam lake takes around 20 minutes.
