Uthai Thani is a province abundant in natural resources, such as forests and wildlife. [wiki=50b66120dd9f61b39d1666eebbbaf174]Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Reserve[/wiki] was proclaimed a natural [wiki=d8a9b665cf6b311b9557019e63670643]UNESCO World Heritage Site[/wiki] on
13 December 1991. The reserve has jungles, forests, plains, many streams, and most importantly, number of rare and endangered animals.

Due to the verdant nature of the area, Uthai Thani is a province with unspoiled natural tourist destinations that are of interest to tourist everywhere. Furthermore, visitors can see the different lifestyles of locals, such as the life of raft residents on Sakae Krang River, a waterway that aided the birth of the province and which has been a lifeline for its people since ancient times. It is also where provincial trading has flourished. Life revolving around the river eventually grew from a community into the major province that it is today.

The most striking indication of the bond between the people and the river since the old days is that in 1906, when King Rama V visited Northern provinces and stayed in Sakae Krang village, the monk Phra Khru Uthai Tham Nithet (Chan) built 2 twin rafts to receive the king.
This clearly showed the importance of the river and the lifestyle of the people living off it in that period.

In addition, at the end of the Buddhist Lent, Buddhists from all directions congregate in the province for a major merit-making tradition called Tak Bat Thewo at the foot of Khao Sakae Krang at Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri. This festival has been held in Uthai Thani since ancient times.

Not too many tourists seem to come here at all.
To get in by bus from Nakhon Sawan, there is a non aircon bus leaving regularly from the bus terminal(one is at 10.30) and it takes about 1.5 hours for the approx. 50Km trip.
The bus station is at the edge of town, but the main road in is pretty well the only road as the city is quite small and very easily walked around.

This city is easily walked around, but there are tuktuks and motorcycle taxis at the bus station.
    Agree on the fare beforehand.

    From the bus station:
From the front, go to the left and after about 100 metres, you will turn left into the main road.
This road is about 1Km long and terminates at the clock tower.
Not a great deal was noticed beyond this point in any direction.

Along this road, about 300 metres along on your left is the market.

Multi-day safaris in [wiki=50b66120dd9f61b39d1666eebbbaf174]Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary[/wiki]. You'll visit wildlife observation towers, do safari drives and jungle hikes to look for the wildlife inhabiting this nature reserve. Animals that might be encountered include the endangered Banteng (wild cattle), various deer species, macaques, possibly even gibbons and langurs, Golden Jackals, Green Peafowl and many other bird species, and maybe more. Home to 8 out of the 9 wild cat species of Thailand, a sighting of a wild cat is still extremely rare. Though tracks of the big cats like Indochinese Leopard and Indochinese Tiger are quite commonly seen. This park sees very little visitors, so a great place to get away from it all.

This cafe was one of only two eats places found open in the city at night. Has an English menu, and the male waiter speaks some English. Food is both Thai and Western and is very popular with locals. There are about 30 seats inside. The menu is very extensive, with pork steak a specialty. Two courses of Thai food, plus rice and a large bottle of Leo beer was B200.

The only other food place found open at night was a KFC about 300 metres along the main road.

This hotel is quite good, and is the only hotel noticed within the city. It is close to the bus station. It is a little dated but clean and well appointed. Breakfast is included in the price, and the Thai one is your best option, as the Farang one consists of three slices of toast with jam (also orange juice and tea/coffee).

There are resorts around the city and two of these were noticed 5 and 10Km distant on the road in from Nakhon Sawan.
