        The simplest and cheapest way to get here from [wiki=233f617d842ce6b68ebb5290f7c383ab]Kathmandu[/wiki] is to take a bus at the "Bakhtapur Bus Terminal" located east of Ratna Park to [wiki=379a13b08d5ce47625ae747687bebb71]Bhaktapur[/wiki] (25 RP in June 2014, 40-50 minutes trip) and from there another Nagarkot (45 RP in June 2014, 1.5 hours, nice trip although buses are very overcrowded).

        There is also a tourist bus which goes directly from Kathmandu. Departs Kathmandu at 13:30 from Shorakhutee Tourist Bus Park Nayabazzar. And from Nagarkot at 10:15 (RP 400 per person). But please check first if it still operates, phones for inquiries and reservations: 01-4262602, 4700424 in Kathmandu; 01-6680137, 6680150 in Nagarkot.

        For some people, it is best to travel by private-hire cars and taxis to Nagarkot. From the international airport, it should take about 40 mins and from the city center, about an hour. A scenic drive via the ancient city of Bhaktapur and tiny villages along meandering mountain roads is a journey by itself.

      • Trekking

        Trekking is another exciting way to get to Nagarkot. The routes can be

        * Day 01: [wiki=233f617d842ce6b68ebb5290f7c383ab]Kathmandu[/wiki] - [wiki=7e6524325f0045c26d2559dad83f2ad4]Sundarijal[/wiki] - [wiki=8b4a072fc6847a39e7d80a4b8d010e6e]Chisapani[/wiki] (2150M) 5:30hrs. Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. Trail climbs up through mixed forest to Chisopani Danda. In a clear day there are good views of mountain from east to west. There are good view of mountain and Kathmandu Valley.
        Day 02: [wiki=8b4a072fc6847a39e7d80a4b8d010e6e]Chisapani[/wiki] - Nagarkot (2163M)5 to 7:30hrs. An interesting trail takes us to the hill retreat of Nagarkot, perched on a ridge 28 km east of Kathmandu. It commands sweeping views of the Himalayas. Five of the world's ten highest peaks, Everest, Lhotse, Choyu, Makalu and Manaslu are visible from here.
        Day 03: Nagarkot - [wiki=8e6308adca2ca3ad8692463dc2634e48]Dhulikhel[/wiki] 6:00hrs The trail climbs up to the tower of Nagarkot. From the tower there are excellent views of mountain including view of Mt Everest and Kahmandu valley. Trail descends through rhododendron forest and villages to Dhulikhel.
        Day 04: [wiki=8e6308adca2ca3ad8692463dc2634e48]Dhulikhel[/wiki] -[wiki=6e82c2ae759a6ca678725bd7a3ed59fd]Namobuddha[/wiki]- [wiki=233f617d842ce6b68ebb5290f7c383ab]Kathmandu[/wiki]. The trail passes many villages and terrace to reach to Namoboudha. In Namobuddha there are some interesting Tibetan monastery which is such an intresting among the tourists.

        * Drive to [wiki=17cd91db2fcfa3caf153dc8cce60f29f]Sankhu[/wiki]. Start walking from Sankhu crossing great farming field and local houses and the Sacred Hindu River called Salinadi. Walk 4 hours to Nagarkot.
        * Drive to [wiki=5ae8689121b2348e88e72a5579d50f2c]Nala[/wiki] (30Km. north-east) of Kathmandu. Start your hiking from village. Take the graveled road to Nagarkot. Pass through the pine forests, terraces and the typical Newari ruines Villages.
        * [wiki=eea0836efe621b5cc37e66918e868c94]Changunarayan[/wiki] - Nagarkot, this route can be done as a round trip, 3-4hrs one way. From Changu Narayan trek for some 2 hrs to Telkot, from there you can either continue trekking to Nagarkot for about 1.5 hrs or take a public bus there. (Changu Narayan to Telkot part of the trek being more scenic). The route is not marked.

      • Mountain Biking

        The way from [wiki=379a13b08d5ce47625ae747687bebb71]Bhaktapur[/wiki] to Nagarkot is steep and adventurous yet many tourists enjoy mountrain biking and it may be one of the way you can get to Nagarkot.

      It is a rustic resort high on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu valley. It is an outstanding hilltop that offers great views of Himalayas, breathtaking mountain scenery and the most impressive views of sunrise and sunset.

      From Nagarkot, one see the breathtaking views of the major Himalayan peaks of Nepal like Manaslu, Ganesh, Langtang, dorje Lakpa, sisa pagma, Choyu, Gauri Shankar, etc. On a clear crystal day, one can even see the tip of Mt. Everest (8848 m) from here. Many tourists go to Nagarkot at afternoon, stay at one of the resorts to view early morning sunrise over the mountains.

      For those who wish to spend more than one night in Nagarkot, there are plenty more activities to keep you occupied. For those wishing to stretch their legs and enjoy the fresh mountain breeze, there are several pleasant strolls around the rural countryside of Nagarkot. Here, you can savour the beauty of majestic mountains under comfort and quiet. Or if you wish you can do pony-riding, a visit to Tamang Village, bird-watching, meditation and yoga, hiking or simply stretch out in a terrace with a vodka cocktail and listen to the noise of rattling winds, you will definitely caught up the holiday mood. Nagarkot is surrounded by thickly forested hills of pine trees which gives you an idyllic escape- with only the wind and the sound of rustling leaves to disturb you.
      *You can walk to Nagarkot view tower which is at 2150 metres above sea level. The view of the sunrise over the himalayas from here is amazing. This is about 5 km from the area where most hotels are; quite an easy trek since it's along a tarred road all the way - but it is dark (take a good torch) and it is cold. There are various transport services that can do the return trip. Hotel at the End of the Universe has a van that seats 6 for RP ~1200.

      Nagarkot is plenty of choices of accomodation of any kind. From around 400 RP (May 2013) to 35 USD or more for a double room.
      • Budget

        It is a nice and clean place. Toilet/Bathroom outside the room. The owner (Raju) used to work in Cruise Ships, so he knows about "other standards". Simple but very decent, only 6 rooms. Good view from the terrace and also from some of the rooms. They also serve good and cheap food.

        *8 basic detached houses for rent. It has some good views. Serve good food for moderate prices. Try their delicious specialty - Cheese tomato Rosti with mushroom souce.

        *Some basic rooms. Although they have spectacular views over the mountains. Free WiFi connection. There is also a restaurant.

        *Some 5 minutes from the main road located this isolated hotel run by local family. They have power generator used in case of power cut offs, and also there is street lighting all the way to the hotel. 5 rooms only. Views from its rooms are simply stunning, perhaps one of the best in Nagarkot.

      • Mid-range

        While viewing Kathmandu valley from above, you just turn your head for the great views over the Himalayas- from sunrise to sunset. You have your own room with attached bathroom (with hot shower). Though the type of the rooms vary (suites, cottages and standard rooms), the style can be summarized by ‘cozy’. Most of the rooms have splendid views over the Himalayas and attached bathrooms with hot shower.The restaurant is a comfortable place to eat, drink, relax, discuss, read. A Nepali- Western style pervades the whole hotel, including the kitchen. The tariff ranges from $ 24- 60 $ per night. The suite is beautiful but the glass (not double glazed) means it can get quite cold so is perhaps not a good idea in winter.

        *is a simple but well-run place with just 10 rooms. It is a mountain resort located at the heart of Nagarkot Hill station. Surrounded by thick pine trees around and far away from the noise and pollution, you can savour your holiday in nature in peace. The octangular tower of the resort commands 360 degree Killer panorama of himalayas and the kathmandu valley. The rooms are simple but neat, clean and very acceptable. The tariff ranges from $ 30- 45 $ per night.

        *2175 mtrs or 7200 ft. above sea level (ideal for acclimatization before trekking in high altitudes or going to Tibet). Atop Windy Hills with 360o unrestricted view of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Sankhu, Changu Narayan in the West; Mt. Annapurna in the North West; Mt. Everest in the North-East; Indrawati Valley in the East; and the Nagarkot Hill on the South.

        *It has outstanding views from the rooms. Some rooms are quite nice. Free Wifi. There is also a restaurant.

        *The Fort Resort has great views, well-kept rooms (ask for a room in the cottages) and the grounds are lovely.

      • Splurge

        Also, The Club Himalaya, has a great viewing point however the last 5 kilometres is VERY narrow, with lots of curves. Car-sickness is a distinct possibility.
        * Good-looking rooms with air-con and views. WiFi. Somehow overpriced as it's possible to find the same quality accommodation for 1/3 of a price. At the time of our visit there was 2 major construction sites nearby [Aug 2013] (Please, remove this note once it's over).

      There were at least 2 cases when tourists were robbed in Nagarkot area. Furthermore, some locals behave slightly aggressive after consuming alcohol. However, in vast majority of hotels work nice people.

      *[wiki=8e6308adca2ca3ad8692463dc2634e48]Dhulikhel[/wiki] Is a village about 40 km from Kathmandu, nice place for lunch and a view of the mountains. The village offers a nice quiet setting to wander the streets and see the 'non-tourist' side of Nepali life.
