By car from Rome, leave the A1 Autostrada at Orte, joining the E45 in the direction of Perugia. After 20km or so ignore the sign for Perugia and continue straight to Spoleto. From Spoleto you can either carry on along the main SS3 highway before taking a left to Bevagna or you can explore the back roads between Spoleto and the town.
There is a railway station at Foligno, 8km to the west, with connections to Rome and Florence.

Piazza Silvestri. Here can be found the Palace of the Consols (Palazzo dei Consoli) in Gothic style, and the churches of San Silvestro (with a beautiful 15th Century Crucifix) and San Michele Arcangelo. The two churches were built by the same architects in the 12th Century in Romanesque style. The layout of the square is not at all symmetrical, which adds to its appeal. The fountain, added in the 19th Century in fake Gothic style, offers potable water when sightseeing becomes thirsty work.
    * Palazzo del Municipio (Palazzo Lepri) is on Corso Matteotti, which follows the route of the Roman Via Flaminia. The town hall dates back to the 1700s. There is a good, but small, museum.
    * Contains some interesting paintings. Here you can also ask to see Bevagna's underground Roman baths, which have some excellent mosaics.[http://www.archeopg.arti.beniculturali.it/index.php?en/123/bevagna]
*A restoration of a medieval water powered paper mill, where you can see all the processes and buy some of the finished paper - open Fri Sat Sun in high season.
*A restored Roman pavement - part of the Terme Romana - located in the Via Terme Romana. Free entry, (though contributions welcomed).
*The internals of a Roman amphitheatre, visitable including a medieval house constructed on the upper floors - guided tours in Italian (also other languages on request). Enquire at a nice little shop adjoining the metal gates.
*Lovely little theatre with la platea (stalls) and many 'boxes' at higher levels. In the main Piazza of Bevagna where the Cathedral is located - walk up the staircase and enjoy.
*Quite fascinating medieval water powered paper mill where you can run through all the production process and buy some gorgeous papers. Located close to the Roman theatre (off Piazza San Francesco). Open Fri/Sat/Sun during the summer.
*This, with medieval origins, is a spot where you can do your washing in the river Teverone (tributary of the Tiber). Not only a wash-house, but some beautiful weirs and sluice gates directing the waters of this powerful river towards various mills. It's an early version of an infinity pool! Close to the Foligno gate.

Il Poggio dei Pettirossi. Formerly an agriturismo now a 3-star hotel this is a couple of miles from Bevagna. Euros 80-100 for a double. Address: Vocabolo Pilone, 301.Tel.: +39 0742 361744 - Fax: +39 0742 369238 [http://www.ilpoggiodeipettirossi.it/index.html]
*A splendid historical residence of 1788 consists of two historic buildings joined by a roof garden. The restaurant is located on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple of the first century BC and their food is made according to recipes that go back to 1900.
*La Vigna Rossa is an old stone farmhouse with two large apartments in countryside around Bevagna. Each apartment can accomodate up 7 - 8 people. It is available a outdoor seasonal swimming pool. I suggest to visit some art towns such as Gubbio, an important city in Roman times, with major ruins of a Roman theater and the beautiful square, Perugia capital, combining ancient and modern, with escalators that go up to the city within the medieval fortress, Orvieto with its beautiful cathedral, Assisi,20 km. away, cultural arts center in the world, a city rich in spirituality and birthplace of St. Francis, but also the beautiful Todi and Deruta, famous for the ancient tradition of majolica, and finally the closest Spello and Bevagna.
