Jiaxing is situated at the juncture of the Hangzhou-Shanghai Railway. Jiaxing is a major stop among many trains going in and out of Shanghai (notably trains to/from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Chengdu tend to make stops in Jiaxing). Jiaxing has two railway stations- one in Nanhu district and one slightly outside of town. As of this writing (Dec. 2012), tickets from Shanghai to Jiaxing cost 13 kuai.

Jiaxing is on the Shanghai-Hangzhou Highway and 320 National Highway. In the mean time, Beijing-Hangzhou Great Canal runs across Jiaxing.

Buses to Jiaxing run from many locations around Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. Jiaxing is easily accessible by bus from Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Suzhou. Jiaxing has two long-distance bus stations.

Jiaxing has no public airport, but can easily be reached from either Shanghai Hongqiao (via high-speed train) or Shanghai Pudong (via long-distance bus station located in the Pudong airport).

Jiaxing will be a station on the proposed Shanghai-Hangzhou Maglev Train Line.

Buses- Jiaxing has an extensive bus system. Without a bus card, it costs 2 kuai to get on the center city buses and up to 7 kuai to get onto buses that go to the outer counties (such as Xitang). Most buses run from about 7 am until 6 pm. After 6 pm, night buses start and normally run until 9-10 pm. There are only a handful of buses that run until midnight. Times, rates, bus frequencies, route stops, and route start and end times are listed at most stops, but some command of Chinese is essential to read the signs.

Taxis- start out at 8 kuai and move up by the half km. In late 2012, a 3 km ride cost about 15 kuai. Make sure that the taxi that you are entering has a meter because some scammers will charge up to 80 kuai for the same trip. The city taxis in Jiaxing are purple.

Bikes- Jiaxing has the infrastructure in place for a city-wide bike rental program, with many locations in both the Nanhu and Xiuzhou districts. In order to rent, you need an IC Card. If renting is not for you, Bikes can also be purchased for as little as 300 kuai. Jiaxing is a very flat city and gears are not very necessary.

IC card- IC Cards give you reduced rates on the buses and allow you to rent bikes. They can be secured on Zhongshan East Rd between Xinhua Bookstore and Qilinshan Tea House (between Anle Rd and W Ring Rd). The closest bus stop is Anle Rd.

South Lake (Chinese: 南湖; pinyin: Nán Hú) is a scenic lake located in the South of Jiaxing City, China, and covers an area of 0.54 km². It is also known as "Mandarin Duck Lake", due to the lake's shape, and is a frequent destination of tourists and sightseers.

Alongside the lake are the ruins of the Misty Rain Tower, which was built in the 10th century. In 1548 AD, during the Ming Dynasty, the local government dredged the waterways and piled up the mud into the center of South Lake, forming an islet. The Misty Rain tower was rebuilt on the islet the next year. In the following years, a group of ancient garden-style architectures emerged around it.

The first national congress of the Communist Party of China was transferred from Shanghai to Jiaxing in 1921 and the final agenda was carried out in a pleasure boat on South Lake. The birth of the party was declared here. It is therefore considered by the Chinese to be one of the most important sacred places of the revolution. The Revolutionary Memorial Hall is located here as well.

They often have blues music playing in the background. While a bit pricey, their espresso drinks are the best in town. Their pastries are also superb and their alcohol selection is fairly impressive. Foreigners often come here, as the owners speak English well. The menu is bilingual.
