Xinxiang has no local airport. The nearest airport is Zhengzhou's Xinzheng Airport.

    • By train

Most trains that stop at the capital city Zhengzhou will also stop in Xinxiang. You can take either the normal train (which takes about an hour) or the high speed train (which takes less than 30 minutes).

Be warned that if you are taking the normal trains, they are usually quite dirty, with their windows closed, and packed to the brim.

    • By bus

You can take a bus from Zhengzhou to Xinxiang, it takes roughly 1.5-2 hours. The bus station is next to the train station.

There are also many 'illegal' taxis or car-sharing services that transport people between Xinxiang and Zhengzhou.

There are many taxis but ensure that the driver uses the meter. Drivers commonly refuse to the use the meter so they can charge you more money.

There is also a bus network but buses are old and dirty. Roads often have potholes, so when taking the buses, you will experience very bumpy rides. It is best to stand up and let your legs absorb the shock or sit at the front of the buses (where it is less bumpy).

Tomb of emperor Wan Li's Brother Lu Wang. This is nearly an exact duplicate of one of the Ming dynasty tombs located outside of Beijing. Close examination reveals a change in the dragon designs so that there are two instead of one in the stone working. Lu Wang desired to be the emperor so much tried copying much of the architecture found in Beijing at the time.

Thirteen sets of animals line the entrance to the tomb, some mystical, and some real. There was some damage during the cultural revolution, and not all of the structure has been restored to its original state.

The main street in the city is Pingyuan road. Here, you will find a Carrefour supermarket (the only one in the city), one or two KFC outlets, and the only Macdonalds and Pizza Hut in Xinxiang. The biggest local supermarkets are Pang Dong Lai supermarket and Dennis supermarket. You will find that many Xinxiang folks prefer these two homegrown supermarkets.

There are also cinemas along the street, as well as numerous Chinese eateries.

Many malls (including the Capitaland mall and Dennis) are currently half-empty. Xin Xiang is a tier 4-6 city and locals have lower disposable incomes compared to tier 1-2 cities, hence, it may be harder for big businesses to thrive.

There are a few parks near Pingyuan road that make for nice jogging or kite-flying.

The biggest 'disco/pub' in the city 'Pandora' (潘多拉酒吧) can be found near Pingyuan road (behind Pang Dong Lai supermarket). There are other Chinese pubs and KTVs throughout the city as well.

There is a big Chinese-style dance hall called 21st Century in the north of the city. You will mostly find middle-aged Chinese couples dancing and drinking in this dance hall.

Near Pingyuan road (opposite Pang Dong Lai supermarket), you will find a cat cafe i.e. a cafe with cats running about inside.

To the north of the city, there is Henan Normal University (which ranks third in the province). To the east of the city, there is Xinxiang Medical College.

Shopping downtown is about the same as in other small Chinese cities/towns. Be advised that since this area sees few foreigners, you may be asked to pay a larger amount than the locals would pay. Haggling should help to fix this.

Xinxiang is a primarily agricultural area however there are some interesting things to purchase:

Tools: There is a large pneumatic tool factory in the city. Since the tools are air powered they should work just about anywhere you want.

Wooden furniture: Several small shops sell handmade wooden furniture in the area. The quality is questionable in some establishments so be sure to check it first. In general it's reasonable however, consider the shipping costs when bringing it back to your home country.

The most famous local dish is 'Hui Mian', a type of wheat-based noodles (think linguine). It is commonly served with a sprinkle of lamb meat and some parsley. Hui Mian noodles are served in many restaurants.

Various Northern Chinese dishes (dumplings, etc) are also commonly found throughout the city.

Tea is readily available. So is bottled water/soda/etc. There are several regional versions of beer that are also available and cheap. Most beer that is served in restaurants is of the unpasteurized variety and is delivered daily. Whether or not it is cold is up to the proprietor.

The Shaolin temple(yes, that Shaolin temple) is an hour bus ride from the city. It's better to take the train to Zhengzhuo and hop one of the multitude of buses there, however, it's possible to get one from Xinxiang.
