Similar to that of Rio, Aracaju has recently received "Bike Caju", an app available on all smartphones. Once you download the app, you can pay either a "monthly" fee of 10 reais, or a "daily" fee of 5 reais. The blue bike stands are stationed all through the Orla, as well as on the main streets such as Beira Mar and some streets in the downtown "Centro" district. After paying for the monthly or daily pass, you can use these bikes for up to an hour before needing to park them at any of the blue bike stands. After waiting 15 minutes you are able to take a new bike for up to an hour, before having to park and wait again.
The bus system in Aracaju is not the best that you will find in Brasil. Buses can pass every 5 minutes or ever 45 minutes, depending on the location and the time of day. On weekends, buses run much slower, especially Sunday. This is because the number of buses is reduced by half.
Buses are entered through the front door and cost 2.35 reais.
Taxis start at the low price of 2.35 during the day, but rise to 4.15 in the evening, throughout the night, and on weekends. If you do not feel comfortable traveling by bus, taxis are are a good way to travel, as they are not as expensive as other cities in the Northeast.
If your hotel is on the Orla and you are planning to spend most of your days at the beach, you can easily walk from one place to another. If you wish to see the downtown area or the "Mercado" you will need to take either a bus or a taxi.
