In spite of its close proximity to bigger, better known cities like Dubrovnik (in Croatia), Herceg Novi (in Montenegro), and Mostar, the bus connectivity to Trebinje is something which could be much improved upon. There are about 2 buses per day to each of these cities, but the time tables keep changing and it is always a good idea to check up front. Buses leave from Mostar at 3PM and 5:30PM everyday and there are also bus connections to other major cities in the region like Sarajevo, Podgorica, Kotor, Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Roads in Bosnia are often only a single lane in either direction, and due to the mountainous topography tend to be very windy and speed limits are lower (mostly 80 kmh). Beware of trucks and people dangerously overtaking on any road. There are many tunnels, and you must always drive with your lights ON (day or night). However, in recent years significant modernisation has taken place.
Trebinje is situated quite close to the Adriatic coast (Dubrovnik, Herceg Novi). It is around 3 hours drive from Zabljak (Durmitor national park in Montenegro), and 2.5 hours away from Mostar. So travelling by car offers many options for daytrips from Trebinje.
